Get Your Butt Outta the Water... and celebrate World Oceans Day in Tofino
World Oceans Day is not just a day to celebrate the sea; it’s an opportunity to celebrate our connection to it and recognize our impact on it.
Here at Long Beach Lodge, we don’t take our view for granted. The ocean is the front and centre of our operations, figuratively and literally. We continue to explore new ways to support the sea and minimize our affect on the environment around us.
Explore the many ways we’re making a difference.
Sustainability at Long Beach Lodge Resort
Our town is small but mighty when it comes to conservation. We praise and support the local Pacific Rim Surfrider Foundation and their many campaigns to reduce the amount of plastic waste and other pollutants on our shorelines.
One particularly powerful message is being spread through the "Hold onto your Butt" campaign; that aims to bring awareness to recyclability of cigarette butts. Toxic butts thrown to the ground are washed into our drainage systems, eventually leading to local waters. Find onsite cigarette cannisters specifically designed for proper disposal.
In commemoration of collecting 1,000,000,000 cigarette butts off the Pacific Rim Coast, Surfrider and Jesse Jones of Some Sea Co created the 'Hold Your Butts Board' to bring awareness to the issue. Check out the short film by local filmmaker, Mike Dandurand:
