Pacific Rim Whale Festival 2023

The 35th annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival starts in March to coincide with the grey whale's return to Vancouver Island's west coast. The Pacific Rim Whale Festival is an annual event celebrating Pacific Grey Whales' return to Vancouver Island's West coast on their Northern migration route. The week-long festival hosts fun events throughout Tofino, Ucluelet, and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

The festival was launched 35 years ago by a non-profit society made up of a group of concerned citizens. Their initial focus was to save the then-endangered grey whale. The organization succeeded, and while grey whale numbers have increased, the annual spring celebration continues to be popular and remains centred around the migration of whales from Mexico to the Arctic.

There is much to do during the festival, including Chowder Chowdown, community whale watching, marine mammal research day by zodiac boat in Barkley Sound, Island Art Paint Night, and so much more!  A calendar of events can be found here.
