Kids love the Long Beach area... who wouldn’t? Here are a few ideas to keep your kids amused & amazed all day long.


Explore the Beaches and Rocky Outcrops

Tidal pools are home to a wide variety of life, from tiny fish called sculpins, to anemones, sea stars, crabs, mussels and goose necked barnacles.

Explore the varied environment

...from sandy beaches to marshes to temperate rainforests. Pacific Rim National Park has many short interpretive walks through differing coastal environments.

Keep your eyes out for Vancouver Island’s famed Banana Slugs...

These forest dwellers can grow to a length of 8 inches (20 cm), with a few giants reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm), and weights of a quarter of a pound (0.1 kg). The banana slug's colour ranges from dead white to black, lemon yellow, tan, and brown–often with black blotches or spots.

Visit the Wickaninnish Centre

Perched on the shore of the Pacific, this interpretive facility focuses on the open ocean. Through exhibits, displays and films, visitors glimpse into the power and majesty of the earth's largest and deepest ocean. Open mid-March to mid-October 10:30am–6pm, 7 days/week.

Visit the Raincoast Interpretive Centre

The goal of the Raincoast Education Society is to provide residents and visitors of the Clayoquot and Barkley Sound region with high-quality learning opportunities about the environmental and cultural history of the region. During the summer months, or by request year-round, guided nature walks are offered. A series of guest lectures are hosted during the fall/winter seasons.Visit their website for more information...

Visit the Ucluelet Aquarium

This small regional aquarium exhibits a collection exclusive to the west coast of Vancouver Island. Their tanks are seasonally stocked from the waters around Ucluelet and Tofino, and after a period on display, all the sealife is safely returned to the wild. Here you can see what lives beneath – sea stars, sculpin, jellyfish, coral, sole, nudibranchs, sea slugs, crabs, and much more! They even have a hands-on tank! Kids love it… so do adults!

Botanical Gardens

Explore the whimsical gardens that are nestled on the edge of the inlet’s mud flats, play in the imaginative play grounds and discover the natural beauty of the coast line. After a day of adventure, stop by Darwin’s café for home baked goods and local coffee.

Skate & Bike park

Opened in 2012, there for all ages, Tofino’s first mountain bike park. Dirt Jumps, Stunt Trails, Challenging Log Rides and North America's first manufactured Pump Track.

Mini-Golf & Paintball

Head over to the Long Beach Golf Course with the kids for a round of mini-golf or paintball!
