Snow drought got you down?

Trade in the snowboard for a surfboard this spring

Surfing in TofinoUnseasonably warm, rainy weather has put a damper on yet another Vancouver Island and B.C. ski season.
The early-February closure of Mount Washington, Vancouver Island’s largest ski resort, has left many families and outdoor enthusiasts without their favourite sport. The ski-less winter extends to the Lower Mainland, where Mount Seymour and Cypress’s terrain park was closed early while Hemlock Valley Resort, northeast of Mission, cancelled the ski season outright for lack of snow. Meanwhile, Grouse Mountain continues limping through another snow-challenged season. Even Whistler, the sixth highest-summit mountain in Canada, is feeling the pain, suffering through what the CBC described as a “snow drought” in 2014.

With fewer and fewer ski choices available, it may be time to consider another outdoor activity, like surfing.
The same great resort experience enjoyed on Mount Washington or any other number of B.C. ski hills can be had in Tofino, at Long Beach Lodge Resort, on Vancouver Island’s beautiful white-sand beaches. Instead of strapping on a snowboard or pair of skis, pull on a wetsuit and grab a surf board and enjoy some of the most picturesque cold-water surfing in the world.

In 2010, Tofino was voted “Best Surf Town in North America” by readers of Outside Magazine. Great environment, top-quality cuisine, the Surf Club Adventure Centre, luxurious accommodations and facilities makes the leap from mountain peak to wave peak as simple as packing the car and driving to Long Beach Lodge Resort.

Never surfed before and not in possession of a wetsuit or board?

The Surf Club Adventure Centre has you covered.

The Surf Club Adventure Centre facilities and services include: on-site surf instruction and equipment rentals; stand up paddleboard flat-water lessons; comfortable change rooms and showers with lockers; sauna; in-ground outdoor hot tub; cappuccino bar and fireplace.

The snow may be rain this year, but don’t let it wash away your plans for a great holiday and a unforgettable adventure in B.C.’s great outdoors.
