Spring at Long Beach Lodge Resort means longer days, longer stays

May 15, 2015, Tofino, BC – At Long Beach Lodge Resort there is a distinct aroma that fills the air during the height of spring – a combination of a popular food festival, the return of surfing fever, and Executive Chef Ian Riddick’s playful beach menus as the SandBar Bistro revs up for ocean side dining.

Spring Events at Long Beach Lodge Resort

Feast Tofino is a collaboration between acclaimed local and regional chefs, restaurants, fishermen, foragers and farmers, all of whom celebrate a ‘boat-to-table’ food philosophy. Running now through to May 24, 2015, this year’s Feast is offering 16 creative dining experiences. For guests of Long Beach Lodge Resort, the proximity to the sea and rainforest are reflective in the dishes Chef Riddick is preparing from spruce cured salmon, citrus pearls, and pickled cucumber to pacific sprouts and spruce snow. Feast Tofino accommodation packages start at $229 Cdn per night with a $100 Cdn dining credit.

Although one may believe May is all food and no action, Tofino lives up to its well-deserved reputation on the world circuit as a sought after surfing destination when it hosts the annual Rip Curl Pro Tofino Canadian Surfing Championships May 30 - 31, 2015. The best waves are often found in front of Long Beach Lodge Resort’s beachfront on Cox Bay, which is where this annual competition takes place. The crescent-shaped beach with tapering walls offers wind protection from the north and south and the surf’s arrival from the east is unimpeded by islands and natural breakwaters. Amateur and budding surfers can also try their hand at the sport through the Lodge’s Surf Club Adventure Centre – a one-of-a-kind facility offering surf classes and gear rentals on-site with a hot tub for some après-surf relaxation.

The Sandbar Bistro at Long Beach Lodge Resort, Tofino’s first beachside dining option that opened in June 2014, is sweeping the sand off the sundrenched patio and heating up the outdoor grills in preparation to welcome guests, surfers, and beachcombers back to its ideal setting with full view of the expansive beach and surfing action. Chef Riddick brings his ocean inspired dishes of the Great Room outdoors in a playful celebration of the sea’s catch. The Sandbar Bistro is open for selected weekends in May in advance of its June 1, 2015 full-season launch.

The Tofino Food and Wine Festival from June 5 - 7, 2015 always stirs up the coastal town with collaboration of award-winning wineries and local cuisine in sensory-loaded events. Long Beach Lodge Resort is pairing up with Joie Winery to serve up Pink Bubbles and fresh oysters from the Outlandish Shellfish Guild.
