A Saturday Well Spent in Tofino

Summer, glorious summer! We’ve been waiting all winter long for it to arrive and now that it’s here - we want you to make the most of it!

To help you pack the little things into your big adventure, we’ve compiled an exciting itinerary for you to test out on your next visit. There is something wonderful to experience every day of the week in Tofino but we’ve chosen to start with Saturday ideas.

During peak months, the town is a bustling and the best advice we can possibly give you during your stay is to pre-order a rental bike. Your own personal cruiser will get you to and from town, give you a fun way to explore our vast beaches, allow you to avoid the hassles of parking, and always guarantees you a safe ride home (Tofino is still in need of public transit and rent-a-ride options).

Now that you have a bike, let’s get started!

The ride from Long Beach Lodge to downtown is about 20-30 minutes along the MUP (multi-use path) that starts at the resort and ends in town. It’s along this path you’ll find many local treasures not to be pedaled by.

  1. Chocolate Tofino, in the Outside Break complex, has fresh, homemade gelato in wildly unexpected flavours. They have a front and back entrance making for speedy lineups on hot days.

  2. The Tofino Botanical Gardens are definitely worth a stroll. For a small fee, you can meander among the waterfront property speckled with sculptural art, live music and both wild and manicured gardens.

  3. Add some art with a coast past Pete Clarkson’s installation on 3rd Street, the Tofino FLOAT’em Garden. Sponsored by the District of Tofino, these public sculptures are the latest project to emerge from his Washed Up Workshop and bring some much welcomed pizazz to the neighbourhood.

  4. No tour would be complete without a bit of history. Pop into the Tofino Clayoquot Heritage Museum to discover the area’s rich history from ancient to modern times.

  5. No Saturday would be complete without a visit to the Tofino Market. Meet local artists and enjoy some live music from 10:00am-2:00pm (this may require some tour-stop shuffling).

  6. Now to make your way back to the Lodge because after all that cruisin', you deserve a mellow Happy Hour on our seaside patio bistro, the Sandbar. Now open for season (currently, Wednesday thru Sunday, 2pm - Sunset but subject to change and weather permitting).

* For a bonus, you can add in a detour down the MUP connector trail off Industrial Road. You’ll end up skirting the tip of the peninsula before looping back around past Tonquin Beach and into town. The interpretive nature signs make it an educational AND scenic route. Note, this addition would be for those with ample energy ;)

We look forward to your visit and to helping you make the very most out of your trip to the end of the road. With so much to explore, be sure to ask our knowledgeable front desk staff what they recommend!

Safe travels!
