Tim’s Tidbits September

As we transition into October, it is a special time on the coast. The first large surfing swells arrive, welcoming storm season and it’s also prime whale-watching as the giant Humpbacks and Grey whales make their long journey south to Mexico, Hawaii and the South Pacific for the winter. What’s truly astounding is that once they leave, they won’t feed again until they return to their summer feeding grounds next spring, moms with calves in tow. At the same time, millions of seabirds are also heading south for the winter, many pausing to rest on our local beaches, including Cox Bay.

I’m especially excited that we’ll be open again this Christmas and New Year’s. After closing during Covid, and then for a couple of seasons so our staff could take a well-deserved break and reconnect with family and friends, it feels wonderful to welcome guests back for the holidays. Preparations are already underway, with our outdoor Christmas lights going up in October. With our cozy home-like atmosphere, the holiday season here always feels relaxed rather than rushed. Add in our festive feasts for Christmas and New Years, and it becomes a truly memorable celebration.

As summer winds down, we also took time this week to celebrate our incredible staff. We thanked them for their hard work with burritos from our friends at Tacofino, beach games, and a get-together before some of our team head off on their next adventures. Our warm approach to hospitality is shaped by a diverse team from around the world, bringing together the best of hospitality experiences from many different countries. We’re grateful to everyone who has stayed with us and to those who contribute their talents here year-round. We wish those moving on (often to chase a ski season) all the very best.

October is a wonderful month to visit, you might enjoy beautiful beach days or experience the thrill of the first winter storms. Either way, we’d love to welcome you.

Best wishes,

Tim Hackett
