things to do in TofinoIf you have ever visited Tofino, Long Beach and Pacific Rim National Park, you will know that there are many things to do. In fact, visitors often leave more tired than when they arrived after days chock-full of beach, ocean and forest adventures. However, if you plan on visiting Tofino and really want to make sure you are not missing any of the must-see, must-do activities, you may want to download Kait Fennell’s new e-book, “251 Things to do in Tofino.”

Broken into themes such as Trails & Hikes, Entertainment & Activities, Tofino Food & Drink, Rainy Days & Tofino Winter Attractions and Kids Activities in Tofino, 251 Things offers ideas for everyone, regardless of age, income or interests.
Some of Kait’s suggestions:
  • Go to the northern tip of Chesterman Beach take your shoes off and walk until you reach the southern end of the sand.
  • Turn off all your electronics and spend a day watching the ocean.
  • Go an entire day without using a single disposable product.

Kait also offers tips on how to look and sound the the part when in Tofino: #7: “Never say TOE-FINO, locals pronounce it as TUH-FINO or simply TUFF.” #8: “Always take your wetsuit off at the beach, unless it’s freezing cold and you live nearby. NEVER grocery shop in your wetsuit.”

Kait also answers the question: Why "Tuff City"?

"You'll most likely see and hear the name Tuff City around town. It originated during the herring fishing season, years ago. This place was crazy with fish, herring all over the bay! Hundreds of boats everywhere! The whole harbor would look like a city. All of these fishermen would come up the hill and go to that old pub the Maquinna. All the men would gather there, and suddenly someone would burst out into a fight and the whole bar room brawl would break out, it was crazy! And that's how Tofino got its' name, you gotta be tough to go in there. Tuff City. That was during the herring season. Some lady would walk in, and all these men would be fighting over her. Bar room brawl = Tough City."

The book is currently available at Amazon.com. Kait is currently working a Ucluelet edition.
