A great team retreat is about more than getting everyone out of the office. It’s about creating the space to focus, reconnect and experience something together.
At Long Beach Lodge Resort, the setting does some of the work for you. With Cox Bay beach right outside your door, rainforest trails nearby and plenty of ways to spend time together—or take a little time for yourself—a retreat in Tofino can be as productive as it is memorable.
Here’s one way your team’s retreat could take shape:
Day 1 – Arrive & Settle In
Afternoon: Make Yourself at Home
Arrive in Tofino, check in and give everyone time to settle into their rooms or cottages. After the journey, leave some space in the schedule to slow down, take in the ocean views and enjoy a first walk along Cox Bay beach, right outside the Lodge.
Evening: Gather Around the Table
Bring everyone together for a welcome reception in the Great Room, where the team can enjoy a drink, take in the ocean views and ease into the retreat. Follow with dinner and an opportunity to reconnect in a relaxed setting before the working sessions and activities begin the next morning.
Day 2 – Focus, Connect & Experience
Morning: Start with a Fresh Perspective
Begin the day with a group yoga session, giving everyone a chance to stretch, clear their minds and ease into the day. After breakfast, bring the team together for a focused working session in our Rainforest Room meeting space. Use the time for strategic conversations, collaborative planning or tackling priorities away from the usual distractions.
Midday: Step Outside
Break up the day with a short scenic hike to Cox Bay Lookout. The trail leads to beautiful views over the coastline and offers a welcome change of pace between working sessions. It’s an opportunity to get some fresh air, share a conversation and return to the afternoon refreshed.
Afternoon: Choose Your Own Adventure
Make room for an experience that brings the team together—or gives everyone a chance to recharge individually. Head out for a team surf lesson on Cox Bay, explore the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve by e-bike along the scenic multi-use path, or enjoy a sauna and cold plunge session. For some well-deserved downtime, individual treatments at our Rainforest Spa offer a chance to unwind. Teams looking for another way to spend the afternoon can also explore the nearby golf course.
The key is finding the right balance between shared activities and time to recharge at your own pace.
Evening: Gather at the Surf Club
For a more relaxed end to the retreat, bring the team together for a private dinner at the Surf Club. The space offers a casual setting to share a meal, enjoy some friendly competition at the pool tables and unwind after a full day together.
The Surf Club can be rented exclusively, with the option to include additional facilities such as the hot pool, cedar sauna and change rooms. Whether you’re planning a laid-back team dinner or an evening of relaxation and activities, the experience can be tailored to your group.
Day 3 – Bring It All Together
Morning: Bring Ideas Together
After breakfast, gather in the meeting room for one final team session. Reflect on the conversations from the retreat, align on next steps and turn fresh ideas into action. It’s an opportunity to consolidate what you’ve worked on together before wrapping up and heading home.
Late Morning: One Last Moment by the Ocean
Before departing, leave a little time to enjoy the surroundings. Take one last walk along Cox Bay beach, enjoy a coffee or simply pause to take in the coastal setting before heading home.
Getting Here is Part of the Experience
Tofino may feel a world away from the everyday, but getting here can be part of the adventure.
For teams travelling from Vancouver, flights to Tofino-Long Beach Airport take just under 50 minutes, offering a convenient way to reach the coast. Prefer to travel by road? The scenic drive across Vancouver Island is an experience in itself, winding through forests, mountains and coastal landscapes along the way.
Make It Your Own
No two teams are the same, and your retreat shouldn’t be either.
Some groups may want more time for strategy and focused work. Others may want to prioritize team-building, wellness or exploring Tofino together. The key is finding the right balance between productive time, shared experiences and space to recharge.
At Long Beach Lodge Resort, our Events team can help you bring the pieces together, from accommodation and meeting spaces to dining and activities. With all-day coordination, we’ll help keep your program running smoothly so you can focus on making the most of your time together.
