Tim’s Tidbits October

Winter storms are one of the most spectacular sights on the West Coast. Huge waves roll into Cox Bay right in front of the Lodge, putting on quite a show as they crash ashore. Some are so big you’d almost think they could wash us away! Beach logs get tossed around like toothpicks, reminding us just how powerful the Pacific can be. With a potentially historic El Niño developing this winter, it will be interesting to see what the season has in store for us on the West Coast.

October is a wonderful time to walk the beach between storms, hike through a lush, rain-soaked rainforest, or perhaps visit Hot Springs Cove for a soak in the natural pools. Alternatively, you can simply relax and recharge, watching the weather roll in from the comfort of the Lodge while enjoying our food and beverage offerings, perhaps followed by a visit to our wonderful spa.

We’re honoured to have been ranked #9 Best Resort in Canada in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards It’s a wonderful recognition, especially considering how many resorts there are across Canada. These awards are voted on by readers, which makes the recognition all the more meaningful. A big thank you to everyone who voted for us, and to our team, whose hard work and dedication make Long Beach Lodge Resort such a special place.

We’re also proud to have been named a finalist in two categories at the 2026 Ecostar Awards: Leadership in Hospitality and Local Food. It’s wonderful to see our team’s efforts and commitment to our community recognized in this way.

A big thank you to all our guests who joined us over Thanksgiving weekend. It’s always my favourite holiday, and it was wonderful to see the Lodge filled with guests enjoying the festivities and spending time together.

There’s more fun ahead over the next few weeks, too! We’re looking forward to our annual Pumpkin Pipeline Surf Contest, along with pumpkin carving, which this year will be available for guests at the Surf Club. It’s always a fun time of year on the coast, with plenty of reasons to get outside, get creative, and enjoy the community spirit that makes this place so special.

Best wishes,

Tim Hackett
