Sunset on Cox Bay Tofino

It’s amazing to see how much surfing in Tofino has grown over the years. With miles of sandy beaches and consistent waves, Tofino has become a favourite cold water surfing destination for surfers of all levels. Thirty years ago, surfing here was still something of a well-kept secret. I remember when you could spend time on Cox Bay and see only a handful of surfers in the water, most of them local. Today, surfers come from all over to experience what we’ve always known makes this place so special.

We’re proud to be part of a community that welcomes surfers from around the world, and to support events like Surf’s Up for Autism, which brings the local surf community together each year for a great cause.

It’s also wonderful to see Long Beach Lodge recognized among some of the world’s great surf destinations. We were recently named the first North American property featured by Surf Hideaways, a platform showcasing surf hotels and retreats around the world. We’re also grateful to our guests who continue to share their experiences with us through TripAdvisor and other platforms. Their feedback means a great deal to our family and our team.

This year also marks 30 years of the Wickaninnish Inn. I’d like to congratulate the McDiarmid family on this milestone and recognize the great contribution they have made to our community and to tourism in Tofino. Their vision helped show what was possible here and paved the way for properties like ours, which followed five years later.

And finally, we’ve had an incredible summer at Long Beach Lodge. My sincere thanks to all of our returning guests, as well as to the couples and families who stayed with us for the first time this year. Your visits are never taken for granted. We truly appreciate you choosing to spend your time with us, and I’m grateful to our wonderful team who work so hard to make every stay special.

Best wishes,

Tim Hackett
