Early spring has returned to Tofino, bringing warmer weather, brighter days, and a calmer ocean! It’s a special time to ease into summer-like activities, maybe swap snowboarding for surfing again, hop on a bike to explore town or ride our multi-use-path through the National Park, pausing to walk along a beach or a rainforest trail. Or, simply slow down, relax, and enjoy life at a slower pace. Take a stroll on the beach, or cozy up by a fire in your room or cottage.

Recently, Diane and I had the chance to visit Mexico, staying on the western edge of the Sea of Cortez. The whales, both Greys and Humpbacks, were still in the area, with the Humpbacks putting on quite the show, breaching and delighting everyone around. What thrilled me most is knowing that these very same whales will, in just a month or two, be in our waters around Tofino, heading north to their summer feeding grounds. This annual rhythm of migration, north in spring, south in autumn, reminds me that some things in nature remain wonderfully constant.

As you probably already know, we love dogs, and they truly love visiting the Lodge! While the pups who stay with us are lucky to be loved and cared for, not all dogs are so fortunate. That’s why, each February, dogs stay free at the Lodge, and the funds we normally would have collected are matched and doubled by us, then donated to the local CARE Network to help dogs in need find new homes. This year, our Pet Month tradition raised $2,000 for the CARE Network!

Finally, thank you to all our guests who share their thoughts about the lodge on TripAdvisor. I personally respond to every review, and it’s incredibly heartening to hear how much visitors enjoy their stays and think of the Lodge as a special place.

We hope to welcome you when you visit Tofino in spring.

Best wishes,

Tim Hackett
