BC travellers choose Stanley Park, Tofino as best places to visit

Tofino proper is a must-see destination for many British Columbians.

Summer is upon us and the question becomes: where do we want to go this year?

For many British Columbians, the choice is clear: Stanley Park was number one at 39 per cent, Tofino second at 38 per cent and Granville Island a distant third at 27 per cent.

“British Columbia’s leisure travellers have a hard time selecting a favourite destination from the many appealing attractions their province has to offer,” says Mario Canseco, vice president of public affairs for Insights West, the company that conducted the survey. “Still, Stanley Park and Tofino were regarded by about two-in-five respondents as visits that cannot be missed.”

However, while Tofino proper is a must-see destination for many British Columbians, so are adjacent and nearby attractions Cathedral Grove (16%) in MacMillan Provincial Park, a 301 hectare provincial park in located 124 km east of Tofino along Highway 4, and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve (15%), south of Long Beach Lodge Resort, Tofino and the Esowista Peninsula.

Other popular B.C. tourist destinations include Butchart Gardens, the Rocky Mountains, Okanagan wineries, Spanish Banks, Haida Gwaii, Whistler Village and Okanagan Lake.

The Insights West findings, as reported by the Vancouver Sun, were based on the results of an online survey conducted from June 11 to June 15, 2015, among 600 adult British Columbians who have made at least one leisure trip 100km from home in the past 12 months.
