Earth Day 2016 in Tofino

Many events planned to support conservation and promote environmentally responsible initiatives.

Tofino Earth Day 2016Earth Day is only observed for one day in April, but Long Beach Lodge Resort works hard throughout the year acting socially and environmentally responsible and looking for new, innovative ways to conserve energy and resources and to reduce waste.

You can learn about some of the on-going activities and processes at the Resort here: Sustainability is a journey and not a destination.

For April 22, 2016, Earth Day 2016, the Resort is pleased to be part of a number of Tofino and regional initiatives:

Straws Suck

A Surfrider Foundation -Pacific Rim chapter initiative, the goal is for Tofino to goes strawless by Earth Day in an effort to rid the West Coast wilderness and surfing town of plastic straws.

Tofino Earth Day 2016According to Surfrider Pacific Rim, as well as adding to the litter problem, scientists hold straws and other plastics responsible for killing one million seabirds, 100,000 mammals and turtles when they entangle themselves or ingest plastic pollution.

Surfrider Pacific Rim has reached out to Tofino business owners, recruited volunteers, created posters, launched a social media campaign, and produced certificates for participating businesses to adopt bio-degradable straw alternatives.

The Resort is fully on-board with the “strawless” campaign and has degradable straw alternatives for guests as plastic straws will be discontinued.
