Long Beach Lodge announces new restaurant manager

Tofino, British Columbia (September, 2008) – Craig Newman has joined Long Beach Lodge Resort as its restaurant manager.

Newman brings with him extensive experience in restaurant management and service experience at various resorts, hotels and restaurants in Western Canada, including Long Beach Lodge Resort, where he was head server from 2002 - 2003.

A native of Ucluelet, B.C., Newman returns to the resort after five years as front-of-house manager and sommelier at the Tauca Lea Resort in Tofino. His hospitality experience also includes Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts, The Post Hotel, Lake Louise Inn, Skiing Louise Ltd., Cottage Bar and Grill and Banff Springs Hotel.

“We are excited to have Craig back at Long Beach Lodge Resort,” says general manager Perry Schmunk. “His experience, professionalism and local roots make him a welcome asset to our team.”

Newman is also pleased to be back and is looking forward to maintaining the restaurant’s reputation for quality dining and fine wines in a comfortable and unpretentious atmosphere. “I always knew I wanted to return here and every time I step into the lodge I feel like I’m home. The view, the happy and relaxed people, it really is a special place,” Newman says. He adds that the fact that he is close to the best surfing in Canada is an added bonus.
“I’ve been known to take a surf break here and there,” he says.
