Beauty and the Beach - How adventure and wellness combined is a healthy travel match in Tofino, BC

Sept. 22, 2015, Tofino, BC – Tofino, BC’s Long Beach Lodge Resort is offering a new, annual wellness & adventure package for women, Beauty & the Beach, challenging perceptions that wellness retreats are only about rest, relaxation, meditation, and should be in warm, sunny destinations to be successful.

The inaugural Beauty & the Beach weekend is Nov. 6 - 8, 2015 and set in a Canadian town famous for winter storm watching. And, we are not talking tropical storms! Hosted by Long Beach Lodge Resort and led by Canadian fitness guru Michele Shorter, the adventure and wellness retreat targets women of all ages and combines boot camp sessions on the beach, challenging yoga and Pilates classes, with nourishing food, and guided sessions on setting fitness, nutrition, and adventure goals inside. Surf and paddle board lessons, invigorating hikes through nearby Ucluelet’s Wild Pacific Trail (created more than 100 years ago by people who survived ship wrecks off one of the most treacherous coastlines in the world) and massages sessions will be optional add-ons to the weekend, with rain gear highly recommended!

Traveling to improve your mental and physical health has been going on for millennia, and as baby boomers hit mid life crises and millennials travel with yoga mats in hand, the worldwide wellness tourism industry has become a multi-billion-dollar sector (more than $494 billion in revenues in 2013), growing faster than travel in general, according to industry reports.

The Shorter Approach to beauty and wellness is built on the philosophy that to take part in all life has to offer, you need to be fit, healthy and confident in your abilities to “go the distance”. If your goal is to do more at home and be more active, this weekend will set up a path for a healthier, long term lifestyle. If your goal is to travel more and explore the world, training ahead of time reduces injuries; sets up healthier eating regimes and practices to nourish the body. In addition, improved health and confidence may inspire travellers to choose adventure trips in destinations that may have seemed too intimidating in the past. During the weekend, participants will have the opportunity to learn about new and emerging adventure travel trends and experiences to further inspire them to set and reach their wellness and fitness goals.

The cost per person starts at $699 Cdn for two nights shared cabin accommodation, breakfasts, dinners, welcome reception and guided fitness instruction and goal setting. Preferred rates are available for private accommodation options and additional nights to extend a stay. There is a one-time fee of $50 Cdn to bring along a four-legged fitness pal.
