March 18, 2013, Tofino, BC – Guests to Tofino, BC’s Long Beach Lodge Resort can add a “marine adventure of the day” to their list of things to do while staying with the only resort in the area that offers a Surf Club Adventure Centre, onsite lessons, and now a brand new private tour boat to take advantage of their oceanfront location in a region known for its pristine marine environment and abundant wildlife.
The first marine adventure departs on March 20, 2013 and tours are $89 Cdn per person, not including a mandatory $2 fee that is required for all motorized excursions and helps fund marine mammal research in the area. The new 31 foot covered passenger boat seats 12 guests in the comfort of a heated cabin complete with full washroom facilities and viewing space both on deck and from the interior. Two, 3.5-hour excursions per day – one at 9 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m. – will allow guests to explore the marine environment, view and photograph local wildlife and stunning scenery with the guidance of naturalist Josh Lewis.
“Josh will choose the adventure catch of the day based on weather and seasonal marine and wildlife activity,” says Tim Hackett, owner of Long Beach Lodge Resort. “We are honoured that so many of our guests return again and again, so our goal is to provide them with lots of adventures to choose from – whether that is trying to surf for the first time, jump aboard our new boat or just sit in the Great Room and gaze at the wonder of it all. The many choices are theirs to make!”
Thanks to Lewis’ 15 years as a local guide in the area, marine adventure tours will change routes as needed to provide guests with the best opportunities possible to view the migration and behaviour of marine species through this wildlife corridor. While a variety of whale species, including humpback and orcas, travel along the west coast of Vancouver Island throughout the spring and summer, the ocean teems with resident species year-round, including seals, porpoises, eagles and bears. Lewis, also a highly regarded photographer who can help guests get the best shots, will showcase the rich vegetation of the area to onboard guests, including the kelp forests beneath the water and the temperate rainforest hugging the shores around Tofino.
