October 4th Storm
Storms here on Cox Bay are breathtaking to say the least, when you are here walking around the grounds of Long Beach Lodge Resort or out on the beach, you get the distinct impression that mother nature is in control.
Today we had our first significant wind of the "storm season". Today's wind storm claimed victim to a couple of trees amongst our cottages. Our housekeeping staff noticed the ground heaving around the base of the two trees as the wind pulled on their tops consistently over 60km/h. The good news is, in a small town like Tofino we are only one or two phone calls away from someone that can help you. Thanks Ollie! Local mechanic/tree faller was on site, with in minutes of the original danger and was able to fall the trees in a controlled fashion that prevented anyone or anything getting hurt! His first comments still sit with me; as he assessed the situation in a very calm demeanour "Hmm, we don’t have much time..." It was great to watch his skill as he fell both trees, ensuring that nothing was damaged including two very young adjacent cedar trees!
Get out here and enjoy a Pacific storm as it first hit’s landfall, like the storm we had today! We will soon be releasing our Storm Watching package to our E-newsletter subscribers, subscribe (if you have not already) and find out how you can best experience these storms from the best seats in North America.
Until next time,
