Perry's Perspective

Newsletter

Spring 2008

This is my first newsletter for the Long Beach Lodge Resort, having recently joined the lodge in late October of this past year.

Of course what I am about to say in this newsletter, is not news to the many past Lodge guests who have already discovered how special this place is — but I felt the opportunity to pass on a few thoughts of my first impressions of Long Beach Lodge Resort.

I can distinctly recall arriving at Long Beach Lodge Resort with my family, checking into the resort and walking up to the Lodge's "Great Room" seeing the beach thru the floor-ceiling windows — my first thoughts on seeing the room and the view….

I had no idea a place like this existed, especially in Canada… my perspective of Canadian resort destinations was framed by places like Banff and Whistler. Who knew Canada had world class beaches? The beach view from the "Great Room" is perfectly framed by the Pacific Rim National Park to the south and Sunset Point to the north.

Who knew Canada had a town who's culture is dominated by surfing? Sure I had heard people surfed in Tofino, but I did not expect that surfing is to Tofino, what skiing is to Whistler. There were countless people in the water playing in the surf.

As we took in the view from the "Great Room", I looked over at Kate, my spouse, and saw a tear emerge from under the lens of her sunglasses (she would later divulge that the beauty of the place reminded her of one of her all time favorite destinations — Bermuda (a place that she and her father had made regular visits to).

The "Great Room" is the heart of the Lodge, a place to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner; a place to have a drink, read a book, play a game of chess or just look out at the view. After being here three months now, I have heard a number of guests describe it as the nicest "room" of anywhere on the west coast of North America (I would have to agree).

I feel very privileged having lived in some of Canada's greatest destinations (Banff, Whistler and Vancouver) But I have to say this place can't be missed, it is a destination that you have to experience (and I am sure once you do, you will return as often as you can).

I hope for those of you that might be visiting the Lodge's website for the first time that you can clear your schedule for a few days soon and get out here to experience the Lodge first hand. Currently we have a great special running during the Spring that give the opportunity to try out Tofino's many activities at a great deal!

In the next issue I will pass on my experience of taking the family surfing for the first time!
